Lately I have become obsessed with lettering. I have always found great inspiration in beautiful hand lettering, but never really practiced it much. Apparently interest changes over time, but I guess so does oneself 🙂
I like to create posters with graphics, patterns and lettering, but projects like that takes time and planning. Often I just feel the need to write down a word or a quote in a beautiful way, to give it some dimension. Small projects like that give you fast results, but it is also a great way to practice and keep exploring your skill.
One of my favorite ways to create these little lettering projects, are by keeping a small notebook, where I do all my sketches. I like to find cool reference material, print a few sheets, and let that be my guide and inspiration for the sketch. This is also a really great way of getting better at ‘knowing’ type/letters.
Below you’ll find a ’step by step’ tutorial on how to get started doing some simple and awesome lettering. You can find more about reference material and free sheets to download in this post. Pin the image below and keep it handy for future reference. The link to the reference material is also mentioned in picture.
Now go do some awesome lettering. Have fun!
